Our engine has been sitting in our shop for quite a while. We knew that we were acquiring it early, but we bought it from another Velocity owner who was retiring his plane, and he gave us a fair deal.
We created an air circulation system which pumps the air through desiccant to keep the engine nice and dry. We keep two jars of desiccant on hand, one actively removing moisture and one on standby. When our dark blue desiccant turns pale pink, we know that it's time to swap it out. We pour the moisture-laden desiccant beads into a parchment-lined baking pan; and those get dried in the oven overnight. We let them cool in the oven and then pour them carefully back into the jar. Our recharged desiccant sits until we need it again. |
