This a photo of the sanding tool that we used to make the airfoil. It is the Millin NACA milling tool Version 1 Rev A. As seen in the previous shot, it makes one pretty airfoil shape. If you need the tool, I am willing to work with the vendor to get you a free copy. (Actually, since this is a single-use tool, I will send it to you, like Andy did for me.)
The real challenge is getting the micro and bid on it. We had the best success with putting on the micro, then a single bid and topping that with peel-ply. The peel-ply is attached on the top of the fuselage with duct tape and wrapped under (through the opening) and taped to the underside of the cowl lip. The peel-ply is then pulled snug with some light clamps, then stippled. It did not take much sanding to get a nice finish. |
