As you can see in the previous picture, the outer faces of the flanges were heavily patched and filled. We decided that it would be wise to cover the areas with fine deck cloth to keep the surface from chipping. Unfortunately, this caused a small problem with the fit of the doghouse. We used some carbon paper (a blast from the past!) to mark the high spots, then sanded the high spots until the fit was once more correct.

This step was actually completed prior to installing the bottom hinge section.
