This firewall view of the NACA ducts shows that there is about one inch of material at the top of the duct. This is depth of the airfoil (Pic 46) that is key to the efficiency of this style duct. In our Velocity application, the airfoil will will add strength to the firewall for the engine mount. With this being just a hole, and the added stiffening from the duct construction, this will definitely be stonger. Is it needed? I don't know, but I need to rationalize all of the added work. So I'm calling it better.
