Eventually, we realized that we hadn't installed the nut on one of the aileron torque tube bolts in each wing. (First hint: The nut was taped to the aileron trailing edge.) WHAT...?! When we got the nut installed, we found that the bolt was now hitting material inside the torque tube channel. We used a Dremmel tool with a cutoff blade to trim the bolt. Here, we're showing the right bolt trimmed, and the left bolt not-yet-trimmed, but about to be.
The loose bolts created loose joints and these caused our inconsistent measurements. With the torque tube joints secure, our measurements for aileron deflection measurement became consistent. |
