We have chosen to add a shallow finger-grip cutout on the door's exterior. This will make the door easier to open, as many other Velocity builders have already discovered. The cutout is located on the bottom of the strake extension, which will be more obvious in the next photo.

We use the multitool to make the long cuts, and a Dremmel with a cutoff blade for the finer cuts.

The fiberglass skin and most of the foam is removed with a chisel. We clean up the opening and define the oval with a Dremmel rotary grinder.
