Our next project will include carbon hinges. Andy Millin has a problem with vibration causing the paint to crack where the cowling-to-colwing hinges are installed with pop rivets. Tom Irion used these carbon hinges exclusively on his Velocity. We are convinced that we should use the carbon hinges on our rear cowling-to-cowling installation. These hinges install solely with a Loctite epoxy, and no pop rivets are needed.

The hinges are manufactured by Leading Edge Composites. Everything needed to install and use their hinges on the airplane is available on the Carbinge.com website. I worked with John Barrett when ordering our supplies, and I sometimes received an email from him after midnight.

Our hinge has just been delivered. We should have taken a glam shot - the hinge is quite handsome!
