We've begun the copilot side carbon hinge installation, and we've learned a few things.

1) Don't skimp on the application of the adhesive. We had to re-do one installation where we were too cautious.

2) The data sheet advises applying a layer of adhesive to both surfaces to be bonded. We do.

3) It's better to install the clecos from the inside - they apply better pressure this way.

4) So far, we've had to clean adhesive from between the hinge "knuckles" for each of the installations.

5) It's possible to recover quite a bit of adhesive from the mixing tip. (see Picture 234 for details).

6) We can only install half the hinge at a time. (see step #2 about cleaning the hinge after each application)

7) Even though we applied petroleum jelly to the cleco tips (locking jaws) before inserting, they are still a little difficult to remove after the adhesive cures. Be sure to wipe off the cleco tips after inserting them, as they collect a drop of adhesive on the way through.

8) Insert all hinge pins and cowling clecos before drilling the hinge install holes. Reinstall the same after cleaning the hinge half: This will force the cowling to properly hold its shape during the cure cycle.
