Here, the wedge is bolted into place. We've taped a piece of carbon paper over the wedge. (...from the days when typists still used carbon paper...!) We've taped a piece of white paper on the leg. We retract the gear, check for rub marks on the leg, and attempt to spin the tire. We want to make sure that the tire can still spin freely in the wheel pocket. We adjust the wedge by rotating it, and repeat the whole process until we have contact between the gear leg and the wedge, the tire spins freely, and the gear door is as flush as possible to the bottom of the strake. |
